On Monday, January 19th, we honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center. Over 500 guests braved the winter weather for our "MLK Day of Service: We are One: Celebrating Beloved Community."
The event featured performances by Ayodele Drum and Dance, Betty Shabazz International Charter Schools, and Kuumba Soul Choir, alongside a midterm election talk with Attorney Ashley Shambley and an "I Am King" reenactment. Attendees also viewed an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. history video and the film "Selma." Activities included arts and crafts, a hot chocolate bar, and voter registration, with service providers Aetna, County Care, Gift of Hope, and Pace in attendance.
We are grateful for the coat donations from The GAIA MOVEMENT and winter essentials for Wendell Phillips High School. Special thanks to our sponsors—Power92, Boost Mobile, Two Imagery Photography, and The DuSable Black History Museum—for their commitment to the community and the Monarch Awards Foundation.
