Teen Esteem Program: Celebrating Women’s History Through Black Girl Magic

Apr 1, 2026

In recognition of Women’s History Month, Monarch Awards Foundation’s, in partnership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, Xi Nu Omega Chapter, Teen Esteem Program hosted an inspiring and affirming session centered on identity, empowerment, and sisterhood. Through a dynamic “Women’s History Paint Party and Girl Talk,” our teens engaged in intentional conversations while expressing their creativity by designing their own “Black Girl Magic” mugs.

During the session, teens reflected on the women who inspire them, and shared how these role models influence their values, goals, and confidence. The conversation then turned inward, as each young lady explored her own “Black Girl Magic” and how she uses it to positively impact others.

Our teens spoke proudly about the qualities they embody and strive to share, including motivating and uplifting other girls, showing a willingness to help others, being supportive friends, and excelling across multiple areas–from the classroom to athletics and the arts. These reflections highlighted not only their individual strengths but also the collective power of young women committed to growth and excellence.

The hands-on painting activity provided a creative outlet that made the experience both engaging and memorable. According to participant surveys, the session was highly impactful, with many sharing that painting their mugs was “very fun” and that the guided conversations created a safe and empowering space for authentic dialogue.

We continue to create opportunities for our teens to build confidence, celebrate and affirm their identity, and leave a lasting impression on those around them.

Because when our girls recognize their magic, they don’t just shine–they inspire others to do the same.
