In collaboration with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® Xi Nu Omega Chapter’s international program, Empower Our Families, we proudly hosted a series of enriching monthly activities for the Youth Leadership Institute (AKA YLI) throughout the school year.
In March, our YLI students enjoyed lively group discussions and bonded over learning the latest line dance moves—mixing rhythm, fun, and friendship with every step. In April, the energy shifted outdoors as our YLI members teamed up with the Teen Esteem Program for a hands-on Earth Day gardening project at Lenart Regional Gifted Center. These young leaders rolled up their sleeves to beautify the garden and promote environmental stewardship within our community.
Mental health awareness was the focus for YLI’s May meeting. Counselors led a thoughtful group discussion where pre-teens shared their personal experiences and concerns, opening the door to honest conversations about stress and emotional well-being. The session also highlighted practical strategies for managing stress and introduced accessible mental health resources to encourage ongoing awareness and support.
We’re inspired by their energy, growth, and teamwork, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for these rising changemakers!
