Community Baby Shower Garnered Local Attention

May 1, 2026

On Saturday, April 11th, in partnership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, Xi Nu Omega Chapter and Blue Door Neighborhood Center, we hosted a Community Baby Shower, which was a great success and truly highlighted the importance of serving the community. There was a clear need for our presence, and our team stayed actively engaged throughout–setting up our table, organizing and distributing items, assisting as ushers, and helping with food service. Attendance exceeded expectations, with the space reaching full capacity, and, at one point, no seats available.

A variety of community partners representing different sectors came together, all focused on supporting the health and wellness of mothers, babies, and families. An event highlight, Self-Advocacy, a doula services and support group, discussed self-care, support, and medical care. Other participating organizations included WIC Program, Roseland Hospital, and the Food Depository, among others. The event also featured three impactful panel discussions: mothers sharing personal experiences, medical professionals offering guidance to new and expectant parents, and fathers providing their perspectives.

Although the event was planned for 100 registrants, attendance far surpassed that number, with many families registering onsite. Estimates rose to over 200 families, creating a standing-room-only environment at times and a demand that was almost difficult to keep up with.

The event concluded on a high note with raffle giveaways, where winners received essential items such as baby bouncers, a rocking chair, a changing table, a crib, and other supplies to help welcome their new family members home. A special thanks to Love McPherson for serving as the event’s emcee.
