This year’s 18th Community Expo featuring the 34th Annual Music and Arts Explosion provided a variety of entertainment, services, school supplies and giveaways for our annual back to school program. Held on Saturday, August 3, over 550 families and students attended our annual Back to School event held at The Montessori School of Englewood located at 6936 S. Hermitage were provided school exams and vaccines by Near North Health, vision and hearing screenings were provided by the Lion’s Club, voter’s registration was provided by our Connection and Social Action Committee and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.-Xi Lambda Chapter.
Service vendors included Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donor Network, Tie Tuesday Foundation, Kennedy King College, OSF Healthcare, Beaded by Parker, Author Kevin Henderson II, VITAS Healthcare, Karen Graham State Farm, and National Council Black Women-Chicago.
Entertainment was provided by violinist Binkta, Sullivan Dance Company, MLDC, 40+ Double Dutch, Guitarist/Vocalist Kayla Jackson, House Music Artist K. Joy, Storyteller Aissatou Afrika-Bey, and line dance instructor Tamela Dreux. DJ Horace Holt provided music throughout the event.
Students enjoyed a Kids Zone which included a bounce house, 3 face painters, a mobile video arcade truck, free haircuts, beaded bracelet making, and a Paint and Punch hosted by Ryan Posey and Giselle Harper.
