The Monarch Awards Foundation offers scholarships of up to $3,000 in several categories. The scholarships are offered to graduating high school seniors attending a Chicago metropolitan area high school, or current college students who are graduates of a Chicago area high school. The awards are intended for students who attend, or plan to attend, an accredited four-year college or university to earn their first undergraduate degree. Both female and male students are encouraged to apply for these scholarships. Awardees will be selected based on a combination of their academic record with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, active participation in extracurricular and/or community service activities, written communication skills shown in the required essay, and two letters of recommendation. In addition to these requirements, please note the special criteria of the categories below.

 

Chicago Metropolitan
High School

 

  • Must be a 2014 graduating senior attending a Chicago Metropolitan Area High School planning to attend an accredited four-year college or university in the summer or fall of 2014.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must show proof of enrollment in an accredited four-year college or university before the scholarship is awarded

Historically Black
College or University

 

  • Must have obtained at least a Second Semester Freshman status at an accredited four-year HBCU and be working on a first Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree
  • Must show proof of graduation from a Chicago Metropolitan Area High School
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Harriet Byrd Scanlon Teen Esteem

 

  • Must be a current member of the 2014 Teen Esteem program
  • Must be a 2014 graduating senior planning to attend an accredited four-year college or university in the summer or fall of 2014
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must show proof of acceptance to and enrollment in an accredited four-year college or university before the scholarship is awarded

Illinois Colleges

 

  • Must have obtained at least a Second Semester Freshman status at an accredited four-year Illinois College or University and be working on a first Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
  • Must show proof of graduation from a Chicago Metropolitan Area High School.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Delta Omicron and Pi Nu Chapters

 

  • Must be a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated
  • Must be a financial and active participant in Delta Omicron or Pi Nu Chapter
  • Must be currently enrolled in college-level courses
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
